Dave chatted with long-time friend, Governor John Hickenlooper, at the latest EatDenver meeting about all-things restaurants, beer & 2020. The Governor shared great stories about opening Wynkoop Brewing Co., the first brew pub in Colorado, back in 1988 including the famous Running of the Pigs. During their morning chat the two friends threw back a few cans of ice cold Ol’ Zippy from The Post Brewing Co… the ultimate breakfast beer.
I am fortunate enough to have just returned from an unbelievable trip. As a chef I have dreamed about going to Japan for so many years. I have always been fascinated with Japanese cuisine and culture. The trip was designed with food and culture as the primary focus. I had the honor of traveling with Yasu Kizaki from Sushi Den, and I couldn’t of asked for a better line up of events for my first trip. Trying to distill two overwhelming weeks into a few paragraphs will be interesting. There was so much culturally, and culinarily that just blew […]
The Bourbon Social in Lexington, Kentucky Day 1, October 7, 2016: Off to the Races The morning started with us driving through the lush fields outside of Lexington, Kentucky, on our way to the vast pastures of Keeneland Racetrack for opening day weekend. After years of hearing about the great horseraces in Boubon country from DQ (a.k.a. Dave Query, my boss) and watching the Kentucky Derby each May on the big screen arriving at Keenland Manor was enough to give me butterflies. It. Was. Awesome. And even better yet, we were there to hang-out with some folks from Kentucky, […]
My Dad Doug’s Chili Recipe Big Batch – Make it on a Saturday and feed off of it all weekend like a family of lions working a water buffalo in the Serengeti. DOWNLOAD THE PDF Seasons are a beautiful thing and we certainly get a full four-color slide shot living in Colorado. It’s a toss up between spring and fall for me as to which one is the best. Spring holds the anticipation of summer and all things lake, water and family. Fall gleaning hard into winter with the anticipation of yet another epic Colorado ski season. Spring brings new greens, […]
Hola Amigos. We had a rainy and snowy start to what is usually a bright and sunny Spring here on The Front Range…and now the patios are crazy hot. They’ve hit their stride, getting into that summer season mojo. It’s Colorado in the summertime, and there just ain’t nothin’ better. LOLA Executive Chef Jamey Fader and I had a great trip down to Northern Baja this spring. Pictures below are from Chef Javier Plascencia’s restaurants in Tijuana and Valle de Guadalupe – and the Ensenada Seafood & Wine Festival where we did a demo on grilling oysters. It was called – Goofy-Ass Pinche’ […]
Paula DuPré Pesmen is a local hero whose dedication, kindness, and generosity have helped hundreds of families in the Boulder / Denver community. We pledge our time and efforts towards the many charities and non-profits that we support in an effort to make our communities stronger, and to help those who truly need it. We don’t keep score and post a tally, we lean towards humility when it comes […]
Jax Denver celebrated National Oyster Day with the help of Governor John Hickenlooper, who served as the honorary Head Shucker alongside BRF Owner Dave Query. Hickenlooper is no stranger to the LoDo restaurant scene, but actually helped transform the once dangerous and derelict neighborhood into the cultural hotspot and “sports fan’s paradise” that it is today. He opened Denver’s first brewery, The Wynkoop Brewing Co. on 18th street, in 1988, the same year that the City of Denver declared LoDo a historic district. Wynkoop set the standard for other businesses in the area, and by the time the Colorado Rockies arrived […]
