The subject of collaboration between writing partners is always an interesting one. The creative journey embarked upon by any writing duo is a complex one — ours made all the more complicated and located as we are brothers. Less than two years apart in age, we’ve been collaborating in one way or another since we were kids. Our earliest creative ventures took the form of large scale sidewalk chalk murals. This evolved into needlessly well designed fortifications in the woods near our home, intended as forward operating bases for the various imaginary battles in which we served as honorable heroes. Of course, like any pair of siblings - we have decades of deeply entrenched communication patterns, for better or worse, conflicts, and hard-wired dynamics. All of this comes into play as we stepped into creative collaboration.

The beginning of our writing journey was unexpected. Harrison had been working in Hollywood for the better part of a decade - writing for film and television. Matt was years into a career as a litigator - and neither of us really had any notion that our professional paths were destined to cross.

Harrison provided the industry wherewithal and fluency that had been honed by over a decade of working in the industry, as well as a respected aptitude as a creative writer. Matt had some of that creative writing gene as well, but his primary contribution was the idea for the story. On top of that, for their first and now their second book, both were set in the rural Rocky Mountain west, the first in Idaho, the second in Montana. All of these settings were spots where Matt had spent time over the years fishing in the summer or hunting in the fall, so the descriptive nature of the stories and their rugged settings flow naturally. With their combined skillsets, their similar interests in film and novels in the thriller and horror realms, and their fraternal language, the stories came pretty easily.
